Michelle, Gary and Lesa are pictured above and braved the coolish temperatures this morning at 7 a.m. The plan was 10+ miles out towards the Big Apple. Laura and I jumped in the picture (below) as Laura had just finished a run and we sent them off with a smile.
All readers of this blog are welcomed to join in on group workouts. In the background of this picture is the FHS track, and the parking lot is technically in front of the Horace Mann Middle School in Franklin. Feel free to make a comment below and let others know when you will be working out, as Lesa had done in the post.
As we approach May, all July 25th SheROX participants should have secured (borrowed?) their bike, have a pool at which to swim and have good running shoes. Your training intensity is up to you, but I would recommend training at least once per week in all three disciplines. If you're having trouble with motivation, access to a pool - anything - please contact me and I will do what I can to help!
Posting the questions below on this blog helped Julie C. drive 2 hours to borrow a bike! By posting, she felt she would be held accountable to her goal of getting the bike, getting it tuned, and then riding to work!
Next Group Workouts: Wednesday, April 28, 2010 8 p.m. Lap Swim at Franklin YMCA
Saturday, May 1, 2010, 7 a.m. group ride from Horance Mann Middle School, Franklin
I've cut and pasted below the answer from Elaine Vescio, Head Mentor for SheROX, to a first-time triathlete who wondered what to do about a bike:
"Tell her not to stress about having a tri bike for her first season of triathlon. A person new to the sport can make great gains and learn a lot, just by training and racing. They don't need all the "gee whiz" stuff. My first two years back in the sport, I just used an old bike with aerobars clipped on it because my time trial bike from bike racing wasn't an appropriate design for the terrain in this area.
Plus since she doesn't have a bike, my guess is that she is new to cycling. Tri bikes are a little more difficult to get used to, so she would be better off just using what she can get for this season (as long as it fits).
So here are her options:
1. Borrow a friend's bike if it is the right size.
2. Buy an inexpensive bike that might be less than optimal, but it's better than nothing.
3. Train indoors at spin classes or stationary bikes at a Y, and rent a bike for races. "
Happy Training! Donna
P.S. I've added a link in the upper right corner to Franklin Physical Therapy - they not only are helping me recover from my injury, but also plan to sponsor a talk for us regarding injury prevention/stretching and/or core strengthening. (I will post the date once we set it for this free event!) BTW - Bicycles Plus in Franklin is too overwhelmed to put on a tire-changing session for us, so look at Elaine's calendar (link on top left) for those sessions and I will keep you posted, as well.
Sunday 4/25 lap swim at the Y , I hope to be in the pool for 12:30-1pm. LEsa
ReplyDeleteHi Lesa: Woulda joined ya, but was visiting sisters for the day. :-) How was the bike ride? I met two mentees: Diane and Lynn P. last Wednesday at the swim and look forward to this Wednesday night! -D
ReplyDeleteGlad to see you are getting to swim :) The ride was great, nice morning and great company. Sunday I completed the 33 lengths with many breaks, then felt goo enough to run 1.5 on the mill..I will bring the Guest Passes on Wed to give too you.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Lesa! As Laura posted, we should meet closer to 8:30 p.m. for lap swim...unless one wants to soak in the jacuzzi. I know I can do at least 15 minutes in there! -D
