The Triathlon Season is Officially Kicked-off!
What a fun night of gathering together and sharing! Our common bond of wanting to stay active and making friends along the way kept us chatting all night! I was happy to see two new faces: Caryn and Cecilia - pictured in the top row, center and right, respectively. Both are active young mothers who are motivated to complete multiple triathlons this season!
We discussed keeping with the Wednesday night swim at the Y at 8 p.m. and Saturday morning bike rides at 7 a.m. For now, the pool schedule works (you could start as early as 6:15 p.m. in the 2 lanes that are open, and then 4 lanes open at 8:30 p.m.) but it's a little early to bike outside so let's keep 7 a.m. timeslot on Saturday and meet on the treadmills at the Y. (Lesa may start as early as 6:30 a.m. and Zumba class follows at 8 a.m. for the extra-ambitious!) Spin on Monday nights with Dave at 6:15 p.m. was also a regular early-season class for us last year. So, we have 3 timeslots in which to look for your fellow-triathletes. See you out there!

One Week Until the Kick-off Party at My House!
This is for you. A starting point where we can officially kick-off the triathlon season and inspire each other! There is nothing like "the power of the group" is a phrase you'll hear me say over and over. I can't tell you the amount of times I have arrived at the pool or the track or a Saturday morning bike ride and have said: "if noone were meeting me here, I would not be doing this right now."
These are just ordinary women, like you and me, who have decided to do something extraordinary. If you're up for the challenge, I encourage you to step out of your comfort zone and join us at the kick-off party on Saturday, February 27th at 6 p.m. You'll meet first-timers, veteran triathletes, marathoners, and women who didn't know there was "an athletic lifestyle over the age of 23".
So here are the details:
10 Riverside Drive, Franklin, MA 02038
Home: 508-613-2223 Donna's cell: 774-571-2408

Please bring finger foods and/or wine or a favorite beverage to share.
Since I've invited Elaine Vescio, (Head mentor for SheROX) please RSVP to me at djacobites@akibia.com so I will have an idea of who is joining us.

Proud 2009 Triathletes Going Strong in 2010!
Lesa and Caitlin both work at the Y in Franklin, so they get the "scoop" on all the fun classes...here they are preparing for the Drums Alive! class last night (held Friday nights at 7 p.m. and again on Wednesdays at noon) I caught the two of them warming up in the fitness area - coincidentally they were both sporting their triathlon shirts!
Wanted to get yet another post out to not only feature these two fun women, but to invite all of you to the Masters Swim workout in North Attleboro (no cost for Y members) on Monday, February 8th at 7:30 p.m. Let's carpool and meet in the parking lot outside of Bob's (Star Market Plaza) in Franklin near the ATM machine at 7 p.m. SHARP! It takes under 20 minutes going 495 to rte 1 south. This is good for ANYONE who wants to get pointers on their stroke from Lenny. He is great - has helped 3 of us in this groups already....and it's best to figure this out now before you start training with bad form.

SheROX is at Webster, MA for 2010!
Read the post below on why we're happy about this!
(Basically, don't sign up through Danskin - actually, I think this might mean that Danskin is not hosting a New England event? ...or at least not in Webster, MA) Anyways, we'll get the proper website to you soon).
Elaine Vescio just emailed me this morning....and they will honor your deferral, Ellen!

Kick-off Party Date: Saturday, February 27th, 6 p.m.
Keep doing what you've started for the New Year (in terms of exercise - this is Erin skating on Beaver Pond) and at the end of the month I'll host a kick-off party and then we'll have organized work-outs starting in March. That will give us just under 5 months to prepare for a Sprint triathlon in July - not too long, not too short!
I'm happy to welcome Elaine Vescio to this blog list - she was the head mentor for the Danskin race last year, and some of us met her at the trial bike ride last year. She and her husband run a training business for athletes - you can check it out at www.mpstraining.com
Elaine has been asked to continue with SheROX, as Danskin and SheROX have split, and best I can tell, both organizations want to host the 3,000+ triathletes at Webster, MA this year! We're fairly confident whichever organization gets the "New England business" that they will honor the deferrals from last year. So, stay tuned, and we'll be sure to hear the latest and greatest updates.
For now, put the Kick-off date of February 27th at 6 p.m. on your calendar. My home at 10 Riverside Drive, Franklin, MA (but google "Riverside Road" for directions) Everyone on this list is welcome. We will be able to put faces to names, share motivational stories, etc.
